Panama StopOver campaign of Copa Airlines is extended in a second phase

Copa Airlines and Promtur, the marketing organization for Panama as a destination, announced a second phase of the Panama Stopover campaign. Tourists will be able to take advantage of 2 destinations for the price of 1 from this month of October until February 28, 2023. Through the Stopover campaign, passengers from Colombia and Argentina who travel through Panama on Copa Airlines flights are encouraged to to be able to include in your itinerary an extended stay in the country from 24 hours to 7 days, without additional cost in the airfare, before continuing to your next destination.

"What we are asking people is that on their trip, whoever wants to go from one destination to another through Panama does not simply go through Panama through the airport on the way, but gets off in Panama, gets to know the country, take advantage of going on the same trip and without a fare difference, which is what Copa assumes in this case. Basically we tell people to come and see 2 destinations for the price of 1", said Marco Ocando, Senior Director Marketing of Copa Airlines.

Fernando Fondevilla, General Manager of Promtur Panama, said that what is sought with the new version of the Copa program, Stopover, is to generate fresh content about attractions and priority destinations in Panama. "It is also to include within that value chain the hotel sector or tourism operators that offer packages or interesting attractions in terms of hotels and tours," said Fondevilla.

The target markets for this campaign are the United States, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina. Visitors can stay up to 7 days in Panama, they will only have to cover the transit taxes through the Tocumen Airport.

"We are estimating that we are going to exceed the numbers of 2019. In 2019 this program produced around 85 thousand visitors. We are estimating together with Copa Airlines that the program will exceed 90 thousand visitors. Obviously the economic benefit related to the length of stay Let's say everything that visitor consumes while in our country, because it will go beyond $150 million," explained Fernando Fondevilla, General Manager of Promtur Panama.

At the event, Copa Airlines pointed out that in the second quarter of 2022 they registered an 88% recovery in passenger movement compared to 2019, the pre-pandemic year.
