Tocumen Panama surpasses 9.5 million passengers between January and May 2026

Tocumen International Airport continues to solidify its position as the leading air hub in Latin America.

Between January and May 2026, it handled a total of 9,597,977 passengers, representing a 15% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, equivalent to 998,680 additional travelers.

In May 2026 alone, Tocumen registered 1,983,874 passengers, supported by a network of more than 90 international connections.

77% of travelers (1,519,380 people) were transit or transfer passengers, reaffirming Panama's importance as a strategic connectivity point. A total of 228,723 passengers disembarked, a 2% increase compared to May 2025.The 235,771 passengers who boarded reflected a 1% increase.

The average daily passenger flow reached 63,990 movements, with peaks on Sundays, Mondays, and Fridays.

Operations

Between January and May 2026, 74,587 aircraft movements were recorded, a 12% increase (7,920 additional operations).

89% were commercial flights. 6% were cargo operations.

The remainder consisted of general aviation, charter flights, military flights, and technical stops. In May, the terminal maintained an average of 443 daily operations, supported by 14 commercial passenger airlines and 14 cargo airlines.

Connectivity

Currently, Tocumen connects Panama with 91 international destinations and one domestic route. The main origin-destination markets between January and May were:

  • Bogotá – 485,538 passengers
  • Miami – 388,070
  • San José, Costa Rica – 359,537
  • Punta Cana – 357,513
  • Medellín – 340,454

Cargo Movement

The terminal handled 107,412 metric tons of cargo in the first five months of the year, a 10% increase. May alone saw 22,880 metric tons, a 9% increase compared to the same month in 2015.

Tocumen's General Manager, José Ruiz Blanco, emphasized that the results reflect the confidence of airlines and passengers in the terminal.

“We continue to strengthen our infrastructure, connectivity, and operational capacity to consolidate Panama as a key link between continents, boosting tourism, competitiveness, and development opportunities for the country,” he concluded.
